About the Photographer

Hi! I’m Jen, owner of Westchase Photo Studio + Wild Muse Boudoir.

I’ve worked in the photography industry almost my entire career. I started as an intern in the Photography Department at Rolling Stone Magazine in NYC. Shortly after, I moved to LA and eventually started working for a celebrity photographer as his Producer and Studio Manager. My first set visit included me having to stand-in for Blake Lively….it was wild! More than two years and hundreds of shoots later, I moved on to a production company where I continued working in production for some of the world’s biggest photographers, movie/tv studios, fashion brands and magazines. After ten years in LA, I moved to Tampa to be closer to family. I started working for a photography education company and started my photography business on the side. As it kept growing, I realized it was time to make this my full-time occupation. I love being the one to actually create the artwork and beautiful memories for my clients instead of supporting other artists. It’s truly a dream come true to be a full-time artist.

All-time favorite career moments as a photographer: When my clients cry after seeing their photos <3 <3 <3 I’ll be honest, I had no idea how powerful photography could be when I started. But it can truly change the way you see yourself. Whether you want to feel beautiful or like a powerful business person….photography can change the way you think about yourself.

Favorite shoot as a Producer in LA: How I Met Your Mother. Neil Patrick Harris danced to my playlist. Jason Segel hit on me. The entire cast could not have been cooler. It was seriously a fun day!

Another was working on a shoot for a high-end fashion brand because the producer allowed me to purchase handbags using her 50% discount. Y’all I stocked up! ;P

Favorite celebrity I was on set with: Betty White. She. is. a. potty. mouth. She had everyone laughing during the entire shoot! I’ve always been a fan of Golden Girls so it was a dream to meet her.

Best thing about owning my own studio: Freedom over my day and creating art that people will keep for a lifetime.

More about me: I have two fur-babies…a dog named Jessa and a cat named Penny. I love ALL the animals and would have 20 if I could somehow manage, lol!

Favorite thing about being a photographer: I may be giving away a secret here, but I love the connection I get with my clients when I photograph them. Whether it’s an individual or a family, I get a little glimpse into their world. Most people do not feel comfortable in front of the camera (this is true even for many celebrities) so people are extra vulnerable when they come in for a shoot. I could have an extremely powerful business person in front of me, and they’ll suddenly get shy when I pull out my camera. It’s wonderful to feel people relax and begin to trust me when we shoot. The #1 compliment I get from people is that I make them feel comfortable. I love that because it truly is a vulnerable act. I actually feel privileged to be able to see someone so clearly. It’s a rare moment when there are no distractions - you can’t be checking your phone while we shoot. We just….connect. And it’s cool. And I have seen the beauty in every.single.person. I have ever photographed. THAT - I believe - is the greatest privilege of being a photographer.
